I sit here today writing this, as my two boys are almost teenagers and my baby girl is one. this is why photography is so important to me
Time passes in the quietest ways sometimes in a blur of sleepy mornings and laundry piles, sometimes in the giggles echoing through the house as chubby little hands clutch yours. So many mothers, in every season, feel that bittersweet ache: how it seemed only yesterday a tiny newborn fit snugly on a chest, yet today that same child races across the living room or towers over them with a grin that’s suddenly not so babyish anymore.
The Invisible Goodbyes
No one warns mothers how quiet the last bedtime story will feel, or how the last request to be carried sneaks by unnoticed. These “lasts” come silently, slipping through ordinary moments. There is rarely a chance to say goodbye to each chapter; instead, we hold on fiercely with our hearts as our little ones outgrow our arms and our laps. Later, we look back, somehow both proud and aching, and wish for just one more messy, magical day.
Why Photos Matter So Much
Photos become tiny anchors for these memories. They capture the glimmer in a child’s eye, the gentle touch of a mother’s hand, the wild, beautiful chaos of family life. As mothers, it’s all too easy to be the one behind the camera, but every mum deserves to stand in the frame with her children owning her place in the story. When life speeds up and moments pass, it’s these images that let us return to the laughter, the love, the versions of our children that no longer exist except in memory.
For the Mothers Who Worry
If today felt overwhelming, or messy, or imperfect, know that one day, these photos you have will be treasures beyond compare. They won’t be just pictures. They’ll be evidence that you were there that your child was deeply loved, that every moment, big or small, was worth remembering. One day, when a grown child reaches for an old photo, they’ll see not just themselves, but the unwavering heart of their mother beside them.
The Gift You Give
Let every season be photographed, not for perfect hair or coordinated outfits, but for the history you are writing together. Children grow out of clothes, and families shift shape, but photos are how we press pause on time, even for a moment. The value of those images will only grow, their worth multiplying with every year that passes.
So, embrace the chaos. Be in the frame. Hold tight to the moments, because you will never regret documenting the beauty of your ever-changing family story,
Don't regret not taking the photo.
